The stock market in 2015

Ageas. Rue du Marquis, 1. 1000 Brussels

Conference by Mr. Vincent Van Dessel, CEO Euronext Brussels

Despite the summer weather, attendance was extremely high with more than 150 people present. Not only is Ageas Club membership growing (over 3000), but also the number of people interested in our conferences is increasing as well.

The speaker was naturally first rate. Chairman and CEO of Euronext Brussels Vincent Van Dessel kept the audience riveted with his presentation on the operation of the stock exchange. All stock exchange transactions now take place electronically, ultrafast and very securely. All info, including sentiment, is immediately reflected in the market price. The volume of transactions on the Brussels exchange has risen enormously: the smaller exchanges have gained particularly from the merger of the exchanges. But still, only 3.6% of the volume originates with transactions placed through Belgian banks and brokerage companies.

Ageas is in eighth place on the Brussels exchange in terms of market capitalisation.

Euronext still faces several important challenges, but in the working environment of the Marquis building (where Ageas also has its headquarters), this will certainly become a success story.

At the next conference on 12 October, beginning 7pm, Bart De Smet and Antonio Cano will discuss Ageas’s strategy for the next three years.
